Shafi Ahmed is a Consultant Laparoscopic Surgeon at The Royal London Hospital. Elected to The Council of The Royal College of Surgeons in 2014, he is the College’s Tutor and Training Director for Core Surgical Trainees.

He is a futurist, innovator and an evangelist in augmented and virtual reality. He performed the world’s first operation to be streamed live in a 360-degree video watched by both medical and non-medical professionals in real-time via the Medical Realities Website.
Prof.Shafi Ahmed is on a mission to make healthcare more equitable, improving the training of surgeons globally, making medical training affordable and easily accessible. He believes ”Thousands of medical students can be trained by someone in Harvard, London or Rome. All they need is a smartphone’s 3G or 4G connection.”
